FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

VIDEO 1: How to Install and Validate the Software

VIDEO 2: How to Use the Software after You’ve Installed and Validated it.

Q: For how many websites can I use this software?

A: You can use the Website Legal Forms GeneratorTM software to generate legal forms on all of the sites that you own. You cannot generate legal forms for sites owned by others. They should buy their own copies. If you’re developing a website for someone else, buy a copy of the software in their name and charge that person for both the software and your services for installing the forms (you could mark up the price for profit).

Q: Can I modify the terms contained in the forms?

A: Yes. However, you do so at your own risk. Most people don’t try to perform heart surgery on themselves because of the health risks. Similarly, few people want to try being their own Internet lawyer.

Q: Can I modify the HTML layout to match my website’s look?

A: Yes! Make the forms naturally blend into your website by using the same design. Or you can simply upload the legal forms in the same format they’re generated. It is your choice.

Q: Can I convert the HTML forms into another format?

A: Some site owners do. For example, some convert them into Adobe Acrobat PDF files. If you make a conversion, you may want to provide visitors with instructions for how to read the converted format.

Q: How do I receive software updates?

A: You can buy new versions of the software when they’re released. There may be special promotional offers available to existing customers.

Q: Will this software work for Mac users or on an Apple Computer?

A: No, not at this time.  Recent studies show that over half of Mac owners have a Windows OS computer in their households. Because of this, it does not make economic sense at the current time to invest in research and development of a Mac-compatible version of the software. Please note – with Macs, you can run the software on Parallels, VirtualPC, or VMWare very easily.

Q: Will this software work with Windows Vista and Windows 7?

Yes. Almost all customers who have installed the software on computers running Windows Vista and Windows 7 have done so without any issues. The one issue that has occurred a couple of times is the following error message during installation:

Why? Windows User Access Controls fail to grant the user full administration rights when installing a program (our software and other software too).

A simple way around this is to run the setup from a command prompt with administrator privileges. To do this, click the Windows Start button and navigate to the Accessories program group. Right-click ‘Command prompt’ and select ‘Run as administrator’. Now navigate to the directory containing your installation files and execute this command:

msiexec /i [YourFile].msi

Replace [YourFile] with the primary name of MSI file available with you.

For a different work around you could look at either Daniel Hanttula’s article that gives step by step instructions.  Or try Paulo Reichert’s 2nd commentor’s solution (see HoJo’s comment).

Q: Are these legal forms good for non-U.S. websites?

A: The forms were designed for compliance with U.S. federal Internet law. This means that they are ideal for websites based in the U.S. (based on the Federal Trade Commission’s newest guidelines) but also for sites located elsewhere that have U.S. customers and want to comply with U.S. federal Internet law. Laws of other countries were not taken into account when designing these forms but many nations have adopted laws that are similar to U.S. federal Internet law. If you have questions about the laws in a particular country, including the U.S., please consult an Internet attorney.

Q: What if my business or hosting company has a non-U.S. address?

A: In Version 2.0, simply enter your non-U.S. address in the spaces provided. For Version 1.0, there are instructions in the Software Guide on how to use the software and then modify the legal forms after generated in order to put in non-U.S. addresses.

Q: Will Attorney Young discuss the particular contents of each legal form with me so that I can customize them for my website?

A: A few people have tried this method unsuccessfully to get Attorney Young, his assistants, and even our customer service representatives to create customized legal documents for them by e-mail. That’s just not the right thing to do. The software is offered at a very low price because there are some people who cannot afford a lawyer to create customized documents. Purchasing the software does NOT make you a client of Attorney Young or his law firm. Neither his assistants nor our customer service representatives are going to pretend to be lawyers. If you want customized legal documents, you should retain an Internet lawyer to prepare them for you at standard rates. Customer support for this software is not professional legal services.

Q: How does your product compare to Web Law Generator?

A: 1) Legal Forms Generator is newer. It contains up-to-date legal forms. The latest version of the software was issued in November 2009.

2) Web Law Generator is off the market because the creator used another Internet lawyer’s legal forms without permission (copyright infringement). It is our understanding that many users of Web Law Generator had to pay three to five thousand dollars each to that attorney to settle infringement claims.

Because Legal Forms Generator contains legal forms personally drafted by Internet lawyer Mike Young, copyright infringement is not an issue.

Q: How does your product compare to AutoWebLaw?

A: AutoWebLaw, owned and operated by a non-lawyer, was probably a pretty good deal when it first came out in 2003.

Legal Forms Generator appears to contain the most up-to-date website legal forms prepared by a top Internet lawyer (November 2009).

After You Invest in the Website Legal Forms Generator:

Q: Do you have an affiliate program?

A: Yes! But in order to access the program, you must have purchased a copy of the Website Legal Forms Generator software.  We are strong believers that you should only promote a product after you have personally reviewed it first.  Once you have purchased the software, you should receive an email inviting you to become an affiliate.  If not, please email our affiliate manager at Support [(at)] InternetAttorneysAssociation.org.

Q: I’ve downloaded and installed the software, but there is no scroll bar and I can’t see the next button to click to the next screen. What do I do?

A: This appears to have been an issue in Version 1.0 of the software that has been fixed in Version 2.0 by automatic resizing.

For Version 1.0, this is a result of how you have your computer display properties set.  The software is 765 x 691 pixels in size. To adjust your resolution to something higher in Windows XP, you would need to do the following:

1. Right-click on your desktop with your mouse.Screen Reslution Settings
2. Select “Properties”.
3. Select “Settings” tab.
4. Under Screen Resolution, adjust the resolution to something higher than 765 x 691 (such as 1280 pixels by 800 pixels or higher).

In Windows, you can also find the settings to adjust under “Display” in the Control Panel.

Q: I have purchased the software but never received an e-mail from you with download instructions.  What should I do?

A: Please check the following first before contacting us:

  1. Please be sure you are checking your correct email.  We’ve had a few instances where people had multiple emails or created a special email just for the software and they forgot which email they registered and purchased the software under. All of our emails, including the download email, go to the email address you give us.
  2. Please check your Junk or Spam folder in your email.  If you have not white listed our address,  it might ended up in your junk or spam folder.  Please be sure that you have whitelisted our email address, Support [(at)] InternetAttorneysAssociation.org.
  3. If you still haven’t received the download email after 24 hours, please email us at Support@InternetAttorneysAssociation.org to request that another download email be sent.  Be sure to include your name, email address and order number to help expedite the process.

Q: After entering my information into the software and clicking the “Generate Forms” button, I get a Validation Error but I can’t figure out what went wrong. What should I do?

Validation Error Image

A: A few people have received this error in Version 1.0 of the software. This issue was resolved in Version 2.0.

For Version 1.0 owners, what is happening is that you’ve either left a few of the required fields blank or have not entered the correct type of text or number into a field.

If you are on the third screen and you click the “Generate Forms” button, the software immediately kicks you back to the first screen for you to double check your inputs.  This doesn’t mean that the error is necessarily on the first screen.  It could be on the second or third screen.

The easiest thing to do is go through the three screens and first check to see if you have any red error messages that show up to the right of the field like the example below.

Red Error Message Example

If you do, then correct what you typed in the field.

If you are still having trouble, it’s good idea to look up the field in the instruction manual to see how the data is supposed to be entered.

Lastly, if you are still having troubles, please email us at Support [(at)] InternetAttorneysAssociation.org and include where you are having the issue, your name and contact information (email, phone number, etc.)

Q: My question hasn’t been addressed. What should I do?

Please email us at Support [(at)] InternetAttorneysAssociation.org and include where you are having the issue, your name and contact information (email, phone number, etc.) and your order number to help expedite the process.
